What Is Tekashi69’s Net Worth?

With a net worth of $500 thousand, Tekashi69 is an American rapper, social media personality, and convicted felon. He ranks among the most controversial figures in the rap industry, both for his musical expression and his tumultuous personal life. In 2015, he admitted guilt to a felony charge related to the use of a child in a sexual performance. Following this, in 2018, he was arrested on multiple charges including racketeering, drug offenses, and conspiracy to commit murder. To obtain a reduced two-year sentence, Tekashi testified against his gang associates, and he was eventually released early due to the COVID-19 pandemic, subsequently placed under house arrest.

In the span of his relatively short career (up to this point), Tekashi has managed to earn significant amounts of money. Allegedly, he has inked numerous appearance and contract deals that could total tens of millions of dollars. We will delve into further detail regarding Tekashi’s finances in the next section.

Financial Issues

To be frank, it’s quite challenging to determine the state of Tekashi69’s finances from month to month. Certainly, he has secured various multi-million dollar record and concert contracts. Additionally, he has accrued millions from streaming royalties, largely credited to his YouTube channel, which boasts 20 million followers and over 5 billion views.

Conversely, after his prison sentence, Tekashi’s career experienced a significant pause lasting two years.

In March 2022, he submitted court documents indicating he was experiencing severe financial difficulties due to the absence of income, primarily stemming from his career standstill for two years. He noted that he was receiving no royalty income and was unable to generate revenue through touring.

His filing specifically stated:

At this moment, I am struggling to meet my basic needs. I am uncertain if I will ever receive the type of advances I was granted before my arrest and the subsequent halt of my career.

These documents were part of a civil lawsuit initiated by two former associates. He also mentioned that the continuation of the lawsuit could lead to his “bankruptcy.”

Merely a month later, Tekashi69 shared a video on Instagram showcasing several million dollars in cash and at least a million dollars worth of vehicles:

The day following the Instagram video release, Tekashi joined “TMZ Live” and was directly questioned by Harvey Levin about how he could show off considerable cash while simultaneously claiming to be bankrupt to a judge. Below is a transcript of their dialogue:

Harvey Levin:

You owe about a million dollars in restitution, and you’ve informed a judge that you simply don’t have it.

Following that, Harvey’s co-host remarked:

Your attorney indicated that you would likely have to file for bankruptcy.

Harvey then stated:

However, you’re spending two million dollars. Isn’t that inviting the risk of having your money seized?

Tekashi responded:

I don’t have it right now. I don’t have it. That was prop money.

Early Life

Born Daniel Hernandez on May 8, 1996, in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, Tekashi69’s mother hails from Mexico, while his father comes from Puerto Rico. He didn’t meet his father until the age of nine, having previously believed him to be dead. In truth, Daniel Sr. was a heroin addict and had been incarcerated.

Later, his father would allege that the mother’s family barred Daniel Sr. from visiting Daniel Jr., even going to the extent of tearing up the letters sent from jail.

The family faced significant financial difficulties, particularly after the murder of Daniel’s stepfather on the family home’s steps in 2010 when Daniel was just 14. This tragedy inflicted severe psychological harm, leading Daniel to seek therapy for PTSD and depression. Around this period, he also began misbehaving in school, resulting in his expulsion in the 8th grade. Following his departure from school, Daniel took a job at a grocery store to support his family financially.

Rap Career

In 2014, Daniel released his first song, fittingly titled “69.” That year, he also launched several other singles. Over the subsequent three years, Daniel, who had adopted the stage name Tekashi 6ix9ine by then, produced a string of albums and videos that garnered him a modest fan base in the underground rap community. Following the release of “Dummy Boy” in 2018, Tekashi69 followed up with his second album, “TattleTales,” in 2020, which debuted at #4 on the U.S. “Billboard” 200.

Success

In 2018, Tekashi69 unveiled his debut mixtape, “Day69.” His first single, “Gummo,” peaked at #6 on the US Rap chart, #7 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #12 on the “Billboard” Hot 100, earning Gold certification. The single “Kooda” also achieved Gold status, reaching #29 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart and #50 on the “Billboard” Hot 100. Additionally, his single “Keke,” featuring Fetty Wap and A Boogie wit da Hoodie, climbed to #20 on the US Rap chart, #22 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and #43 on the “Billboard” Hot 100.

Reported Record Deals

6IX9INE has taken to social media to boast about various record and management agreements. In January 2018, he alleged (in a now-removed Instagram post) that he had inked a $7.5 million record contract. A month later, he claimed to have signed a $15 million management deal with Birdman’s RICHGANG firm. Shortly thereafter, he asserted that he had secured a $4.9 million endorsement deal with a headphone company. However, several insiders in the recording industry have stated that there is no evidence supporting the legitimacy of any of these claimed deals.

$10 Million Deal

In October 2019, Tekashi finalized a confirmed record agreement with 10K Projects, which is reported to be worth at least $10 million and encompasses two future albums—one in English and one in Spanish.

GlobalStreamNow Deal

In July 2020, Tekashi118 announced a $5 million agreement with the live-streaming enterprise GlobalStreamNow. This deal pertains to a virtual performance slated for September 5, 2020.

On numerous occasions, Tekashi69 has faced arrest. In 2015, he entered a guilty plea for a felony charge related to the sexual performance involving a child. He received a three-year probation sentence, avoiding the requirement to register as a sex offender, provided he did not share sexually explicit images online and completed his GED. However, he ultimately did not pass his GED test. In July 2018, he was apprehended due to an outstanding warrant connected to an alleged choking incident at a mall in Houston.

In 2018, he faced charges for weapons, drugs, and racketeering. To evade a potential 47-year prison sentence, he agreed to testify against a group affiliated with the Nine Trey Bloods gang. Over several days in September 2019, he provided testimony. He explained that the Nine Trey Bloods essentially permitted him to feign membership as long as he funded their activities. Furthermore, he disclosed that following the release of the track “Gummo,” he began making an average of $60,000 monthly from YouTube royalties and live performance fees.

He entered a guilty plea in December 2019, as part of his deal with government prosecutors.

As a result of his cooperation, the judge ultimately sentenced Tekashi to serve just 13 months, while those he testified against are facing life imprisonment.

On March 22, 2020, Tekashi requested early release due to the widespread COVID-19 pandemic affecting the prison system. The government raised no objections, and he was released on April 2nd, having been initially scheduled for release in August 2020.

In March 2023, reports indicated that Tekashi was assaulted in a steam room at an LA Fitness gym located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Social media shared videos of the incident, showing him with facial injuries, and so far, one suspect has pleaded not guilty.

Release

On May 8, 2020, Tekashi unleashed his new single “Gooba” along with a music video. The video rapidly broke records, achieving the highest number of views for a hip-hop video within 24 hours on YouTube. It garnered 40 million views within that time frame, surpassing Eminem’s previous record of 38 million views set in 2018 for “Killshot.”

Within a week, “Gooba” amassed over 150 million views.

On the same day, May 8th, Tekashi69 conducted an Instagram live session, attracting more than two million live viewers, breaking the Instagram live record by over 1.7 million.

From YouTube ad revenue, Spotify royalties, and other income streams, Tekashi claimed to have generated $2 million from “Gooba” in less than a week. He also expressed his goal to donate 10% of the profits to charitable causes.

Personal Life

Just weeks before his imprisonment at the end of 2018, Tekashi began a relationship with Rachel “Jade” Watley. He has a daughter with Sara Molina, born in October 2015, and another daughter with Marlayna M., born in November 2018.

Fluent in Spanish, Tekashi has featured in four Spanish-language tracks: “Bebe,” “Mala,” “Yaya,” and “Bori.” He also suffers from asthma.

After his release from prison, Tekashi settled into a modest residence in Lido Beach. However, after a neighbor revealed his location, he was reported to have moved to Water Mill, New York, into a sprawling 8,500-square-foot home that overlooks the property, which comprises a tree farm. At the time, the home was available for rent at a price of $55,000.
