Early Life

Born on April 22nd, 1990, in Houston, Texas, Richard Colson Baker grew up with parents who were missionaries, leading to frequent relocations with his family. As a kid, he lived in various countries including Germany and Egypt, as well as moving around to several different U.S. states. Eventually, he and his father settled in Denver after his mother departed from the family.

During his teenage years, Baker faced bullying and began to use words as his defense mechanism, ultimately developing a passion for rap music. He started creating his own tracks during a challenging period when his father was away in Kuwait for military duty, which led him to live in a neighbor’s basement and experiment with drugs. It was then he recorded his first mixtape, Stamp of Approval. Eventually, he dropped out of school, which prompted his father to take him to Kuwait.

Career

Upon returning to the U.S. to finish high school, Baker persuaded an MC manager to assist in launching his career. This marked the time when he adopted the name “Machine Gun Kelly,” reflecting his rapid-fire vocal style. MGK began performing at local venues and eventually graced the stage at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. His appearances on MTV2’s Sucker Free Freestyle followed, along with the release of his second mixtape, 100 Words and Running. Despite gaining visibility, MGK faced financial difficulties, including being kicked out of his family home, becoming a father himself, and working at Chipotle to make ends meet.

A significant turning point came with his single “Alice in Wonderland,” which garnered him multiple awards and raised his profile before the launch of his mixtape, Lace Up. One track was even dedicated to the Cleveland Cavaliers and featured at their stadium during home games. Following this success, MGK teamed up with Juicy J for a single.

“Inhale.” In 2011, Sean Combs approached MGK and signed him to Bad Boy Records.

In 2012, MGK was set to launch his debut studio album, titled Lace Up. The album showcased hits like “Invincible” and “Wild Boy,” featuring artists such as Tech N9ne, Twista, and DMX. That same year, he teamed up with various artists, including Pusha T and Meek Mill, for a mixtape titled Black Flag. Following extensive delays, 2015 saw the release of MGK’s second studio album, General Admission.

While collaborating with Camila Cabello, MGK produced the hit single “Bad Things” in 2016. By 2018, tensions between MGK and Eminem escalated. Years earlier, MGK had referred to Eminem’s 16-year-old daughter as “hot” in a tweet, which Eminem only discovered over a year later, leading him to create a diss track targeting MGK. The feud intensified, culminating in Eminem banning MGK from his online radio station. One of MGK’s most notable diss tracks aimed at Eminem was 2018’s “Rap Devil.”

2019 marked the launch of MGK’s fourth studio album, Hotel Diablo, featuring singles “I Think I’m Okay” and “Glass House,” which made its debut at number 5 on the charts. During that year, MGK also announced his next album titled Tickets to My Downfall, a collaboration with Travis Barker, planned for release in 2020. In 2022, he released the studio album Mainstream Sellout.

Acting

In films like Beyond the Lights, The Land, Bird Box, The Dirt, and Big Time Adolescence, MGK has made appearances. Additionally, he featured on MTV’s Wild ‘n Out. In 2022, Machine Gun Kelly took on the role of “London Clash” in his self-directed film Good Mourning.

Personal Life

Kelly has a daughter from a previous relationship with Emma Cannon, and she was born in 2009 and named Casie.

He has been linked with models Amber Rose and Sommer Ray. In May 2020, his relationship with actress Megan Fox began. Fox announced their engagement in January 2022. In May 2023, it was reported that they were once again taking a “break.”

Real Estate

At some point in early 2020, MGK began leasing a newly constructed home in Sherman Oaks, California, with a monthly rent of $30,000.

In April 2022, he purchased Logan Paul’s former mansion in Encino, California, for $7.5 million. Logan had bought the property in October 2017 for $6.55 million and listed it for $8.5 million at the time of sale. The sprawling 30,000-square-foot mansion features 14 rooms and was fully renovated by Paul shortly after his acquisition in 2017.
