Early Life

Shaun Roger White was born on September 3, 1986, in San Diego, California. He grew up alongside his parents, Roger and Cathy, as well as his older siblings, Jesse and Kari. Shaun was born with a congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot, resulting in two open-heart surgeries during his childhood. He began snowboarding early, inspired by his brother, and the White family frequently visited Bear Mountain and Okemo Mountain ski resorts. By age seven, Shaun was already clinching victories in snowboarding competitions and showed considerable talent in skateboarding; at a San Diego skatepark when he was nine, he met famed skateboarder Tony Hawk, who subsequently became his mentor.

Career

Shaun turned professional in snowboarding at 13 and in skateboarding at 17. His aptitude in skateboarding earned him the title of Action Sports Tour Champion, making him the first individual to win events in both Winter X Games and Summer X Games across multiple sports. When Shaun was seven, snowboard maker Burton began sponsoring him.

At just 16 years old, he made history by becoming the youngest athlete to win the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships. Shaun participated in the Winter Olympics during the years 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018, securing his first Olympic gold medal at the age of 19. He triumphed in the European snowboarding contest Air & Style in both 2003 and 2004, and in 2007, he clinched the Burton US Open title, earning the title of “Burton Global Open Champion.” Following this success, he launched the video game “Shaun White Snowboarding” in 2008, with “Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage” following in 2009.

In 2009, Shaun claimed victory at the FIS World Cup Men’s Halfpipe competition, and in 2012, he achieved a perfect score in the men’s Snowboard SuperPipe at the Winter X Games, an unprecedented accomplishment. He finished third at the 2013 Pipe & Slope competition and faced a serious injury in 2017 while training for the Winter Olympics in New Zealand. Following a crash into the rim of a superpipe, he required 62 stitches on his face and spent five days hospitalized. Nevertheless, Shaun participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics, where he earned his third gold medal, while he placed fourth in the halfpipe at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Beyond athletics, White has ventured into the entertainment industry, appearing in films such as “Friends with Benefits” (2011), “Stretch” (2014), and the Disney Channel movie “Cloud 9” (2014). He has provided his voice for “The Smurfs 2” (2013) and an episode of Fox’s “American Dad!” (2013), as well as featured in music videos by Thirty Seconds to Mars and The Black Keys. In 2012, he founded the band Bad Things alongside Davis LeDuke, Jared Palomar, Anthony Sanudo, and Lena Zawaideh. The group signed with Warner Bros. Records in 2013 and released its self-titled debut album in 2014.

In 2022, White introduced the active lifestyle brand “Whitespace,” which launched a collection of outerwear, snowboarding gear, athletic equipment, and urban apparel.

Also, in September 2012, White faced arrest for vandalism and public intoxication in Nashville, Tennessee, after attending the wedding of Patrick Carney from The Black Keys; the

Later, the charges were dismissed.

White holds the record for the most X Games gold medals and overall medals won by any athlete in history. He achieved X Games gold in superpipe in the years 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, in addition to gold medals for slopestyle in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009. Real Estate

Shaun White has established himself as an underground real estate mogul with numerous luxury properties worldwide.

In 2014, he acquired a 3-bedroom ranch house in Malibu for $8.94 million. In 2020, he sold this property for $11.8 million. Around the same period, White listed another Malibu home for $12.75 million, which was later reduced to $8.995 million in early 2020 and ultimately sold for $8 million. Both Malibu homes were originally part of a $27.5 million compound that White had put on the market in 2019, with the option to sell them separately.

In 2017, Shaun sold his 4,500-square-foot home in Hollywood Hills for $6.7 million and put his New York City penthouse on the market for $2.79 million. He relisted the penthouse in 2019 for $2.95 million, and by July 2020, the price had dropped to $2.45 million. In September, it was relisted at $3 million.

In March 2018, Shaun purchased a second property in Hollywood Hills on the same street as the home he sold a year prior, paying $3.75 million for it. This property was listed for sale in April 2024 for $5 million, and in August 2024, he accepted an offer of $3.925 million.
