His rise to fame began with mixtapes such as “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania” and “Grow Season,” which highlighted his relaxed style and witty wordplay. The year 2010 marked his breakthrough with the single “Black and Yellow,” which dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became a rallying cry for his hometown, Pittsburgh.

Over the years, Khalifa has produced many successful albums, including “Rolling Papers,” “O.N.I.F.C.,” and “Blacc Hollywood,” featuring popular tracks like “Roll Up,” “Work Hard, Play Hard,” and “We Dem Boyz.” His music often delves into themes such as personal development, the joys of life, and cannabis culture.

Early Life

Cameron Jibril Thomaz, known as Wiz Khalifa, was born on September 8, 1987, in Minot, North Dakota. His parents, both service members, divorced when he was just three years old, causing his family to relocate often. Khalifa spent time in Japan, the U.K., and Germany before settling in Pittsburgh with his mother in 1996. Shortly after moving to Pittsburgh, he began to write and perform his own songs. By the age of 15, he was recording his music, and those at the studio were taken by his lyrics, allowing him to record some songs for free. At 16, in 2004, he was discovered by Benjy Grinberg, the founder and President of Rostrum Records, who offered him a recording and management contract. Rostrum later also signed another rising Pittsburgh rapper, Mac Miller.

Career

Khalifa’s first mixtape, “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania,” was released in 2005, paving the way for his debut album “Show and Prove” in 2006. That same year, Rolling Stone recognized Khalifa as an “artist to watch.” He followed up with two more mixtapes through Rostrum Records: “Grow Season” in July 2007, and “Prince of the City 2” in November 2007. In that year, he signed with Warner Bros. Records and released the single “Say Yeah.” His mixtapes “Star Power,” released in September 2008, and “Flight School” in April 2009, were also brought out under Rostrum Records.

After leaving Warner Bros. Records during the summer of 2009 due to delays in releasing his anticipated debut album “First Flight,” Khalifa achieved significant success with “Black and Yellow,” reaching the top position on the Billboard Hot 100. To date, he has released seven studio albums: “Show and Prove” (2006), “Deal or No Deal” (2009), “Rolling Papers” (2011), and several more…

“Mac & Devin Go To High School” (featuring Snoop Dogg), alongside 2012’s “O.N.I.F.C.,” 2014’s “Blacc Hollywood,” and 2018’s “Rolling Papers 2,” are highlights of Khalifa’s career. He has dropped several hit singles, such as “See You Again” (featuring Charlie Puth), which topped charts in numerous countries, and other popular tracks including “Roll Up,” “Young, Wild & Free” (with Snoop Dogg and featuring Bruno Mars), “Work Hard, Play Hard,” “We Own It (Fast & Furious)” (with 2 Chainz), and “Sucker for Pain” (with Lil Wayne, Imagine Dragons, Logic, and Ty Dolla Sign featuring X Ambassadors). After their divorce, Khalifa dated Winnie Harlow for a period, before eventually being linked to a new “mystery” woman, later disclosed as Aimee Aguilar.

Wiz Khalifa Day was proclaimed by the Pittsburgh City Council on December 12, 2012.

As an outspoken advocate for marijuana, Wiz has claimed to spend around $10,000 monthly on cannabis and smokes daily. Furthermore, in 2016, he appeared on VH1’s Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Club cooking show alongside Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg, with marijuana being a central theme.
